ORDERING ONLINE
You can make your Christmas gift giving extra easy this year, by ordering
online, AND it may cost less than you think, both in money and time. Amazon
has practically everything available now(even other store gift cards), or if
you have a specific gift in mind, you can find them on specialty websites.
The website prices are often lower or the same as many specials you can find
in stores. Rather than walking/driving store to store, you can cruise
quickly online until you find a site that carries the product (check them
out on the Better Business Bureau website www.bbb.org if you haven't ordered
from them before). If they are for a distant friend/relative, then save
money & time by having the company gift wrap it and mail it directly to
them. Most companies will also let you type a personal message to include.
Think it costs too much?...the amount you save by having it shipped once (to
the recipient) vs. twice (to you, then to the recipient), can be used for
gift wrap. If you are giving to someone local, then you can have the items
shipped to you and gift wrap it yourself. I had a pretty good idea of what
I wanted to get the people on our list, and it only took me about an hour to
order things from several companies, do the gift notes, and get them on
their way to arrive on time. Some of our other favorite order sites...
www.russellstover.com for Chocolate
www.llbean.com for Wreaths/Centerpieces
www.ediblearrangements.com for Fruit Centerpieces
www.popcornfactory.com for Goodies/Snacks www.cheesecakefactory.com but only
order from The Cheesecake Factory with their telephone number (every time
I've ordered online, several times over more than a year, I've had problems
with the order). POST IT...with your shopping lists & holiday/birthday
dates.

TV SHOWS ONLINE
There's a new trend, and if you haven't noticed, you may be thrilled to find
that TV episode you missed when your shopping ran late is still available
online. Many networks are now airing episodes online with less commercial
interruptions than on TV. Sometimes the online episodes are available
BEFORE the TV show airs, sometimes only after. Sometimes indefinitely,
sometimes for only a certain period of time. Below I'll list the websites
to the major networks, but here are some tips. Most episodes will show a
segment, then you have to sit through a required commercial, but if you only
missed part of a program, you can fast forward through the segment to get to
the next segment, after the commercial of course. Make sure your pop-up
blockers are turned off.
ABC - http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing
CBS - http://www.cbs.com (then scroll down until you see "Watch Full
Episodes" on the left border and click on your show). NBC -
http://www.nbc.com/Video/ Fox - http://www.myspace.com/fox Finally, if you
are searching for a video from another network, check out AOL's search site
at... http://video.aol.com/ So now, if you are recording one show, watching
another, and another favorite comes on, or if your VCR goes out, or your
spouse HAS to watch that game, you can check it out later. Hope that
doesn't happen too often. POST IT...with your TV Guide. NOTE TO "LOST"
FANS: ABC is putting 30 seconds worth of the next episode into the
replacement show "Daybreak," which is available online, although I don't
know if the 30 seconds will be included online.

HANGING PICTURES
With Winter Break probably being the 2nd biggest move time, here are some
tips on hanging pictures. First, place the things you want to hang against
the walls you would like to hang them on throughout the house. Then
starting with the least used rooms (so you've had some practice once you get
to the rooms that are constantly in use), start putting up the pictures.
Pick the center picture first. Measure the wall & place a tape measure (or
other object) on the floor, at the center of the length of the wall. Stand
there and raise the picture to the proper height (usually where the center
is a little higher than eye level. Have someone that can step back, while
the other is holding the picture, to get the height where you want it. Take
a pencil & make a small mark where the top of the picture should be. Don't
worry about right & left right now, only height. Put the picture down,
stand with your feet touching on either side of the center mark on the
floor, touch the wall for balance, close your eyes and "look" high on the
wall, where the mark will be, open your eyes and mark where you are looking
near the top picture mark (if you try to use a measure on the wall itself,
you are more likely to leave marks from the measure). Now, measure the back
of the picture from the top, to wear the hanger is. Measure that same
distance from the center mark on the wall, to where its hanger will be. Put
a small piece of masking tape over that mark (this keeps the plaster from
flaking off), you'll still be able to see it underneath. Take a stud finder
and run it over the area to make sure you aren't hitting things you
shouldn't, OR use dry wall hangers, which don't go in as far. Then hammer
your hanger into that mark. If you find a picture is too high or too low,
try to adjust the hanging wire (if it has one) instead of moving the
nail/hanger. If you find something is too far to the right or left, you may
be able to shift it slightly, or pictures/furniture near it, to solve the
problem. Try to do pictures in the morning, so if you do (God forbid) hit a
gas, water, or power line, you will be more likely to notice the problem
early on. And when you are putting the nail in, if you feel unusual
resistance, esp. after it has gone through the dry wall (about 1/2"), then
stop hammering. If you are ever unsure about where you are putting a hanger,
see about hiring a professional. POST IT...with our Ultimate Moving
Checklist available on our website.

LOST? LOOK FOR PIZZA DELIVERIES!
I don't care what map program you use, even GPS, sometimes even the best
programs will let you down and you will become lost. If you don't know
where you are, then it can be hard to get directions from someone at the
destination. Many people stop at gas stations/convenience stores and ask
for directions, in my experience, with less than stellar results. But the
best place to ask directions is at a pizza delivery place, the bigger the
name, the more the orders, and the better the directions. Pizza delivery
places are all over the place now, open almost all the time, and they know
the area. So remember that the next time you are lost. POST IT...in your
glove compartment or with your mapping programs.

RECIPE: Cheddar Chili Cups (from a reader)
This sounds like a good one for those cold winter days...
Chili Cups Ingredients:
2 (15-ounce) cans vegetarian chili
1/2 cup sliced green onions
6 (4-inch) hard round dinner rolls
Toppings Ingredients:
6 slices (1/2 ounce each) Cheddar Cheese
1/3 cup Sour Cream
2 ounces (1/2 cup) Cheddar Cheese, shredded
Cherry tomatoes, if desired
1. Combine chili and green onions in 2-quart saucepan. Cover; cook over
medium heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through (3 to 5 minutes).
2. Meanwhile, hollow out rolls with serrated knife, leaving 1-inch shell.
Place 1 slice cheese in bottom of each roll; fill with 1/2 cup hot chili.
3. Top each with 2 teaspoons sour cream; sprinkle with shredded cheese.
Serve with cherry tomatoes, if desired.
Makes 6 servings.

MISSING: Bryan Dossantos-Gomez
Bryan (Newborn, Hispanic Male, 12 lbs, Black Hair) was abducted from his
mother at knifepoint in Estero, FL on 12/1/06. The abductor (Female, 28-30
yrs old, Black Hair, 5'4") drove off in a black 2-door SUV with tinted
windows that may be peeling. She had a child seat and diapers in the SUV,
which makes the police think this was pre-meditated. For photos and
updates, go to... http://www.amw.com/missing_children/brief.cfm?id=41989
POST IT...in your business or car, esp. if you are in the Ft. Myers/Estero
area of FL.

FINAL WORDS
JOKE
Last winter Bob and Mark built an ice skating rink in the middle of a
pasture. A shepherd leading his flock decided to take a shortcut across the
rink. But the sheep were afraid of the ice and wouldn't cross it. Desperate,
the shepherd began pulling them to the other side. "Look at that," Bob said
to Mark. "That guy is trying to pull the wool over our ice!"

you'll win." ~~Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams (1945- )
