Holiday Salutations to all my Healthy-Foods Readers!

We’re well into the holidays and with that in mind, I want to let you know
that we will not be publishing on the last two Fridays of December,

Getting Ready for the Holidays by Leanne Ely, C.N.C.

Getting ready for the holidays for some people is like getting ready for a
root canal: even the anticipation is painful.

It totally does not have to be that way.

Why shouldn’t dinnertime during the holidays be simple? Even though our
routines usually get stretched and pulled during this time, we still have
the ability to get dinner on the table and get everyone fed. I’m not
talking drive thru, either!

I challenge you to start thinking of your freezer as your own personal
“food bank”. Where you throw an extra casserole in the freezer for a rainy
day, or you double a meatloaf or main course soup recipe so you’re never
without a back up plan OR you have the ability to bless someone else (like
when a neighbor has a baby, etc.).

Now is the time for all good cooks to come to the aid of their freezer.
Let’s get that thing stocked! You can use a Mega Menu Mailer to really get

you can do it in the course of making dinner. It’s really easy—if you’re
going to go to the trouble of making a favorite casserole, why not make
two and freeze one? Making two or even three meatloaves isn’t any more
work than making one (here’s hint for making fresh tasting meatloaf—shape
it like you would to cook it, but freeze it raw, then it won’t have the
reheated flavor).

So get cooking! Get that freezer stocked. If you do just ONE casserole
extra per week between now and “crunch time”, you’ll have 4- to 6 extra
meals on hand.

Think “doubly” hard about your dinners these next couple of weeks (get
it?) and keep dinner happening at your house during the hectic holidays.

Help! It Might Be My Clothes by Leslie, MissusSmartyPants

If you are like me, sometimes you just have a bad day. I’m sure you can
think of lots of excuses and who’s to blame. Maybe your kids told you at
the last minute they needed to be somewhere-NOW, or you were running
behind in the morning and got to work late—again! We have lots of reasons
why we hurry and wear anything just to get out the door. Did you ever
consider blaming your clothes?

If you didn’t take the time or give any thought to what you wore that day,
chances are that your clothes could have played a part in having a
miserable day.

Here’s what I am getting at: it’s a fact that you feel better when you
know you look better. So why not put a little effort into what you wear?
Let your clothes do some constructive work for you. With a little wardrobe
planning, you can make some basic “uniforms” for yourself.

Here’s what I mean when I say “uniforms”. By doing a closet purge, and
putting together a basic wardrobe plan, you will begin to see “uniforms”.
These are outfits that can be made up with the basic pieces in your
closet. Once you get some basic pieces, you can put together different
matching combinations quickly. Add some mix-and-match jewelry/accessories
and you are set to go and looking good in no-time flat!

Having a uniform plan really works when you are frazzled and rushing in
the morning. If you set out your clothes the night before, you will see
the payoff of a little advanced planning--you will have more time in the
morning. Wouldn’t you like some more time in the morning?

Looking great really does help you start your day right. It allows you to
express yourself; who you are and that you are someone of value. You will
begin to see the effect your fabulous outfits have on you--and your daily

*Quick tip—read the labels of everything! I was in a fast food place,
ordered a salad that was really quite healthy considering where I was, but
noticed (too late) that the salad dressing packet they gave me gave the
nutrition information for THREE servings! I dumped the whole thing on my
salad and changed that healthy salad into a fat laden disaster. Lesson
learned!
