[1] End-of-line pack customisation from laser system

End-of-line packaging customisation is now possible with the
DataLase very low power CO2 laser system. Variable information -
ingredients, barcodes, batch numbers, logos, special offers and
promotions can be easily applied directly to packaging and labels or
amended at the end of the line. The area marked is coated with
DataLase and left blank. The information is activated at the end of
the production line using the laser, causing a white-to-black colour
change reaction.

[2] Thermoformed salad containers' fast packing speed

The Wicks range of thermoformed oval, hinged and open salad
containers feature integral spoon forks and are available in
standard deep fill and triple fill formats. They are produced with a
self locater and snap-shut lid to assist with enhanced packaging
speeds. The open wedges are available as standard in black and
clear. A new microwavable container is also to be launched in the
near future in an ergonomically designed shape that will appeal to
consumers.

[3] Leak detector for pharma modified atmosphere packs

Leak-Master Mapmax is the latest micro leak detection system from
Witt Gas Techniques. It provides a fully-automatic system to detect
leaks for food and pharmaceutical packers supplying rigid and
flexible MAP and is appropriate for vacuum, thermoforming, chamber,
form, fill and seal packaging machines. Leak-Master Mapmax is an
automatic in-line detection system for automatic quality control on
the entire packaging line. It is non-destructive and uses CO2
detection technology, eliminating costly helium testing.

[4] Wide bagging system for short-run packaging

The new Autobaga AB 255 Onestep wide bagging system for flexible
order fulfilment and short-run packaging is a faster, streamlined
process, reducing cycle time and packing costs. It provides
fully-integrated large bagging and labelling for mail order
fulfilment and packaging, shipping and dispatch applications. The AB
255 Onestep interfaces with shipping and customer databases, then
imprints shipping label data directly onto the appropriate bag as it
is indexed into the loading position.

[5] Free white paper: effective project management

Traditional project management software is effective at producing
and maintaining a project plan, but collating the ideas and
information that underpin the project can be arduous and
time-consuming. Mind mapping software is what you need. Taking
advantage of our natural ability to visualise images, it provides a
non-linear structure where ideas can be recorded and a solution
developed in a logical fashion. This white paper shows how
MindGenius software can be used, together with Microsoft Project,
for really effective project planning.

[6] Heidelberg to sell Esko packaging software in Asia

Heidelberg Asia is to distribute Esko's Scope packaging software
modules - Deskpack, Plato and ArtiosCAD - and the Kongsberg XE10
folding carton cutting table. The modules will be used to configure
dedicated packaging front-end driving Suprasetter thermal and
Prosetter violet CTP systems. Heidelberg will offer a small-format,
die-less cutting table for its folding carton companies with the
Kongsberg XE10 to produce mock-ups, samples and short-run boxes, as
well as cutting varnish blankets.

[7] Label software integrates with adhesive papers

Label Traxx version 4.2.7 now connects with MACtac's pressure
sensitive adhesive coated papers and films. Label Traxx users can
access the MACtac order system directly from their software. As a
result, ordering MACtac papers and films becomes easier, faster and
more reliable than before. Orders are received electronically and
roll ID numbers, widths and lengths are received into Label Traxx
directly from MACtac, saving time and ensuring accuracy.

[8] Robot Palletiser provides more stable pallet loads

The RP500 Cartesian Robot Palletiser palletises filled bags onto
manually positioned empty pallets. The RP500 comprises a grid to
pick-up the bag and a pneumatically actuated pusher to deposit the
bag on the layer. The bag gripper has four-axis mobility, taking the
bags and depositing them on the pallet. The bag pusher is controlled
by a pneumatic cylinder and the gripper rotation/pusher direction
deposits each close to the previous bag, producing a more stable
load.

[9] System removes guess work for foam in bag packs

Speedypacker Insight takes the guess-work out of selecting the
proper size foam-in-bag packaging. It enables users to pre-program
up to 156 foam-in-bag configurations that distribute specific
percentages of foam and lengths of film to customise the packaging
for each product to be shipped. Pre-programmed selections increase
production because the guess-work is removed from the packaging
process, allowing employees working on the packaging line to produce
the correct foam-in-bag package at the touch of a button.
