AND NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR...
Bringing Parents Home
Like many parents, my husband and I found our priorities transforming with
the birth of our two children. Together, we wanted to be home for those
"once in a life time moments" and take control of our life decisions and
choices.
An exciting new gourmet candle home business has empowered my family to lead
that change. We are living the journey.
What's your dream? Come and explore the possibilities for your family and
learn about the refreshing options available to you. We'd love to share a no
cost info packet and scent samples with you, too:

HOW MANY OF ME?
This is a fun website just for browsing, but it might also be a great tool
if you are trying to pick a baby's name. At... http://www.howmanyofme.com
You enter in a first and/or last name and it will tell you how many people
in the USA have that first name, that last name, and how many have that
combination of your first and last name. So if you enter "Jane Doe," it
will tell you that there are 374,961 people with the name "Jane," 17,988
with the last name "Doe," and 22 with the name "Jane Doe"(yes, really!). It
will also tell you how popular the name is, as in "the 149th most popular
name," and whether it is more likely to be given to males or females (the
first name). So give it a try, whether you are expecting or not. POST
IT...on your computer and email to your friends who are expecting.

BID MY RENT
While the real estate sales market has been slow, you might want to consider
renting any house you are having difficulty selling. The rental market is
very hot right now, perhaps because people are waiting to buy until they see
how the sales market turns. When we moved recently, the new owners
immediately put the house on the rental market and over 3 days we were told
that 10 groups of people got into a bidding war over it, and the winner
ended up paying about $200 a month over what our mortgage payment was.
Well, now a website has helped to do the work for you. At...
http://www.bidrent.com
You can make a listing and people will bid on your rental. Of course you
can also list your rental on non-bidding sites and let prospective renters
know that until a contract is signed that they may be asked to better
another rent offer. The non bidding sites would be places like
http://www.rent.com
Or
http://www.militarybyowner.com
For those near military bases. To read more about this rent busy trend, go
to... http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/10/26/D8L0FA5G0.html
POST IT...with your home's mortgage info, or in the yellow pages under "Real
Estate Agents."

ELIZABETHAN COLLAR TIPS FOR PETS
Since we are personally experiencing a marathon Elizabethan collar tour with
our dog, due to a slow healing wound, we feel we have become experts on how
to handle this situation. For those unfamiliar with the term, Elizabethan
collars are the cones that some pets have to wear around their heads, either
to keep them from chewing on their lower halfs, or to keep them from
scratching their heads. Most vets will try to find the smallest collar
that will do the job, but you want to make sure you can still fit a finger
between the collar & their neck. Tape the edges of the cone with masking
tape and replace as necessary to keep walls from being marked when they
bump. The pet will be unable to clean their face, so at least once a day,
try to take a warm damp cloth and wipe their face for them (this may be more
problematic for cat owners). Also once a day, spray a cloth with window
cleaner and wait until it soaks into the towel, then quickly (the pets don't
usually like the smell) wipe down the inside and outside of the cone, to
keep build up at a minimum. If you notice that your pet is rubbing their
head against the side of the cone in one particular area, try to scratch
that area for them, to keep the area from becoming raw. Some animals become
skittish about going up steps if they look down and catch the cone on the
edge as they try to ascend. So try to keep their focus high, go ahead of
them so they will look up at you. If they still get spooked, then try other
steps they may not associate with getting caught (my dog will not go up
wooden steps, but the carpeted & brick steps he's fine with). You might
also have to hold the collar up under their chin either with your hand below
the cone, or pulling the top edge of the collar up, to keep it from getting
caught. If your pet won't eat food out of the bowl, try moving the bowl to
the middle of the floor, and if that doesn't work, you might have to hold it
for them. Try to keep doors to any rooms they might go in & out of wide
open to avoid collar catching. We're praying our dog will be done with this
collar soon. POST IT...with your vet info.

AND NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR...
--"I Never Should Have Tolerated It!"--
Mary was angry. She was losing her husband to divorce. Why? Lack of
money--the debt was out of control. Hurtful things were said. Her
relationship with her husband declined and never recovered. It's sad,
really. But not uncommon. Not at all. Did you know over 70% of marriages
that end in divorce are due to financial difficulties. If your marriage is
suffering because of a high debt load, you need to do something about it
NOW. Not tomorrow. Not next week. If you wait any longer, you may be
bankrupt, divorced or both. My name is Clint Holland. I've developed a
system that anyone can use to pay off all their debt, including the
mortgage, in just 3-5 years--without bankruptcy, debt consolidation, or any
unethical tactics. Will you let me help you? Member BBB.

OVERSCHEDULED KIDS
We've covered it before, but this is the time of year when it becomes
apparent to many families that they are just doing too much. No time for
just sitting around & playing a game with the kids, we have to rush here and
rush there, and there's that practice, and that lesson, and that playgroup.
I'm not saying our kids should be housebound, but they should also have time
just to relax and take it easy, time to just be kids. And parents should
have time to sit down and enjoy their kids instead of constantly passing
them off to this instructor, that coach, or this teacher. Eventually this
type of thing can take its toll on kids. Even if our kids want to do it all
("They love it, they're the ones who want to do it, I'm not pushing it,"
some parents protest), there are times when we need to say no. Just like we
might tell a child they need to go to bed, when they want to read a book
until midnight. Reading a book is great, but kids need their sleep too, and
there needs to be a balance. To read more about this problem, go to...
http://www.cnn.com/2006/EDUCATION/08/30/overscheduled.kids/index.html
For the sake of your children, really look at their schedules, write them
down and see how much free time the kids actually have. POST IT...on your
calendar.

RECIPE: Green Beans and Feta w/Dill (from Lori in FL)
Another hit from one of our helpful readers. This sounded like a great idea
for Thanksgiving or anytime. Prep time: 15 min. Cook 2 lbs fresh green
beans in boiling water for 7 minutes or until tender-crisp (I'm guessing
that canned or frozen, cooked appropriately would also do in a pinch).
Drain; rinse with cold water. Toss beans with 1/2 C Kraft Zesty Italian
Salad dressing, 1/4 C crumbled Feta cheese, 1/4 C chopped red onion & 1/4 C
chopped fresh dill (if you must substitute dried dill...4 tsp) and a
sprinkling of slivered almonds in large bowl. Serve immediately or
refrigerate for several hours or until chilled. The original recipe called
for all fresh foods and I'm sure it is the tastiest that way, but the Make a
Note likes to provide options in case someone needs to substitute. Thanks
again to Lori in FL for sharing this yummy with us. POST IT...in your
recipe box and/or shopping list.

FINAL WORDS
JOKE (Funny AND True!)
When Debbie Phillips tried to report a crime, police just snickered. "I told
him that someone came into my house and
cleaned," the president of the Putnam County School Board said. "He just
laughed." The problem was that Phillips had no idea who the mystery cleaner
was. It didn't look like anything had been stolen, but she couldn't be
sure. As it turns out, her neighbor across the street, with a similar house
number, the same number of rooms to be cleaned and a house key hidden in a
similar spot outside, had hired a cleaning service. "They just came to the
wrong door," Phillips said. To read the whole story go to...
