Based on a True Story
Many of the films made these days are based on or inspired by true stories
and real-life events. Movie buffs will love this cool website, which
allows you to peek behind the script and meet the real people whose lives
became the foundation for a Hollywood film.
Meet the real people behind the "reel stories" such as "Erin Brockovich",
"Invincible", "Frida", "Goodfellas", "Schindler's List" and other powerful
movies. Browse alphabetically by movie title, click on a movie to meet the
real person, and then read an interview about their life experience and its
correspondence to the film that was made in their honor.

The Art of Books
You can now safely judge a book by its cover, thanks to this extensive
digital collection of decorative bindings from the 19th and early 20th
Centuries. "Publishers' Bindings Online, 1815-1930: The Art of Books"
(PBO), is a collection that demonstrates how book artwork can be a window
through which we can view a specific period of American history and culture.
PBO is a cooperative project between the libraries at the University of
Alabama and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and boasts an amazing
amount of material on its site including over 4,500 books and upwards of
10,000 original images. Browse the collection of bindings, read through
some of the literary and historical essays, and click on the "About PBO"
section to learn more about the spirit behind "The Art of Books" project.

In addition to all of the statistics, the Baseball Reference site also has
other fun features including a Baseball Travel Guide with state-by-state

The Woodward and Bernstein Watergate Papers
When Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein broke the Watergate scandal, they
quickly became the most famous journalists in America. This online
exhibition, entitled "The Woodward and Bernstein Watergate Papers", reveals
some of the journalists' materials from their legendary investigation that
began with a "third-rate" burglary and ended with the resignation of the
President of the United States.
While the online exhibition does not contain all of the information from
the physical exhibit at the University of Texas-Austin, it is still a
fascinating experience. Visitors will find notes, tapes, memos, drafts of
articles, tape recordings, source interviews and other research materials
from Woodward and Bernstein's original investigation of Watergate, which
led to the downfall of a president, and became the subject of two books as
well as the Academy Award-winning film "All the President's Men".

Zak Smith's Illustrations for Gravity's Rainbow
It is no small task to attempt to illustrate each page of Pynchon's
"Gravity's Rainbow", but that is exactly what ambitious artist Zak Smith
has done. This site, presented by TheModernWord.Com, contains Smith's
entire work as well as critical essays about his significant artistic endeavor.
Scroll through all four digital books of the Illustration Index, where
Smith used a mixture of mediums including acrylic painting, drawing,
experimental photographic processes, and other methods to capture the
