[1] City & Guilds certificate in machinery safety
Pilz is now offering one-day and two-day City & Guilds machinery
safety training courses for supervisors and managers. Based on the
popular four-day City & Guilds course, the syllabus is tailored to
suit the specific needs of managers and supervisors working in plants
where machinery is in use. Successful candidates are awarded a
nationally recognised City & Guilds certificate. To request more
information, please email your name, company and telephone number to
Pilz.

[2] New distributor for Cablesafe safety hook in Texas.
The oil and gas industry in the Gulf of Mexico is pleased with the
appointment of Intrepid Industries Inc. in La Porte TX as the
distributor for the Cablesafe safety hook. Many US oil and chemical
companies discovered Cablesafe in their European factories and
implementation in the US is made easier with a local stock-keeping
distributor in the US. Intrepid is pleased with Cablesafe since the
"S" hooks match their product line of safety gates and grating
penetration collars.

[3] Free temperature measurement handbook
There are a number of different transducers available for measuring
temperature, including thermocouples, thermistors and RTDs. How do you
decide which is appropriate to use? Now you can download the
Temperature Measurement chapter of Adept Scientific's Signal
Conditioning & PC-Based Data Acquisition Handbook, which also
discusses the required signal conditioning, and various techniques for
optimising the accuracy of your temperature measurements.

[4] Surface coating beats cross contamination
Independently monitored laboratory tests show that the presence of
BioCote, an exterior surface coating technology that fights the growth
of a wide range of micro-organisms, is a fundamental element in
helping to control bacterial cross contamination on Priorclave's range
of autoclaves. A recent swabbing trial was conducted and the results,
taken from three separate locations, show a reduction of up to 78 per
cent in the number of bacteria on a BioCote treated surface compared
to an untreated surface.

[5] Safe use and inspection of ladders
There is a tendency to use the phrase 'ladders' as a 'catch all'
description for a range of differing equipment, however, when it comes
to inspections and promoting safe use, people often revert back to
only a conventional ladder inspection regime. Scafftag's Laddertag has
become the industry standard system for (conventional) ladders, used
by thousands of leading companies worldwide including Thales, Siemens,
Salamis, Coors, BP and Serco. Send for more details.

[6] Noise reduction measure cuts energy usage by 65%
A plant modification at automotive mirror maker Flabeg to reduce noise
has also lead to a 65 per cent reduction in energy consumption,
which will recoup the capital outlay in 12-14 months.
Mitsubishi Electric helped supply a solution. Find out more.
