Technique Tips

Right Adduct Across With Left Shoulder Pushing Across

Execute this movement by contracting with your obliques on the right side. You want to lead with your oblique muscles and not your limbs. Visualize a diagonal line that runs from the front of your shoulder down to the opposite hip adductors. Draw the two ends of this line together to work what is called your anterior oblique system.

Circling Weight Out to the Right and Over to the Left in Seated Position with Legs Extended Out to the Diagonal

This movement begins by pushing the weight (both hands holding the weight; elbows out to the side) out to the right side with the torso leaning forward in the same direction. Circle the weight out and over to the left side with the torso leaning forward and following the weight. Core muscles should be engaged throughout as gravity acts differently on the body during the phases of the circle.

Yoga Benefits Breast Cancer Patients

Results of a study by the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and an Indian yoga-research foundation show that breast cancer pateints who did yoga twice a week around the time of their radiation treatments not only felt better overall but also came out stronger and less fatigued.  The yoga exercises focused on breathing and relaxation and gave these women a physical boost.  In short, findings showed that a little stretching and focused breathing may improve your health.  (NOTE: Jazzercise incorporates yoga as well as Pilates, kickboxing, and jazz dance moves for a total body workout.)
