For the first time, the Royal Society is making the complete archive of their journals freely available online. For a two month period, the public will be able to access scientific papers going back to 1665, when Henry Oldenburg published Philosophical Transactions, the first-ever peer-reviewed journal in the English language.
Impossible supernova confounds astronomers Sep 21
Researchers in Canada have detected a highly unusual Type Ia supernova (SNLS-03D3bb) that is just over twice the usual brightness for such an event. The finding could cause experts to re-evaluate a fundamental measure that underpins our understanding of the universe’s expansion (Nature 443 308).
