What’s new?

Hot News Headlines
Reviewing iTunes 7 and the new line of iPods, David Pogue writing for the New York Times, says you can’t “find a better online music store, or a free jukebox program as powerful and clean as iTunes. And you certainly won’t find a music player that beats the new iPods in polish, capacity or even price. They come dazzlingly close to perfection.”

Mike Kobrin (PC Magazine) gives the new iPod nano 4.5 stars (out of five) and an Editors’ Choice rating, calling it “the finest flash player out there in terms of look and feel.”

The Playlist also awards iPod nano a 4.5 star rating (out of 5), and reviewer Christopher Breen indicates that iPod nano “feels and looks great with its rugged aluminum finish and bright display. Apple’s done nice things with power management to allow the nano to play for 24-plus hours on a single charge.” “All in all,” he concludes,” this is a worthy successor to the original nano and one that’s likely to be a smash hit this holiday season.”

The iTunes Store, lets you purchase and download movies 24/7. And delivers them at near-DVD quality directly to your Mac or PC, where you can sync them to iPod.(1) Just enter the Store, click on the new Movies button, and you’ll find more than 75 films from Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Touchstone Pictures, and Miramax.

Already playing are such hit movies as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Shakespeare in Love, The Incredibles, National Treasure, Toy Story, Cinderella, and Bambi. And you can expect to see lots more movies in the weeks and months ahead, with prices starting at just $9.99. Care to catch a flick?

iTunes 7 Movies certainly star in the new version of iTunes, but iTunes 7 comes with a strong cast of supporting characters. They include:

  •   A new user interface that improves organization of the Source List.
  •   Two new methods for browsing your library: Album view and Cover Flow view.
  •   Automatic Album Art—if you have an account, iTunes will download album art for most of the CDs you import.
  •   Gapless Playback of live albums, classical music, and other music recorded without interruption.
  •   iPod Games you can purchase and download exclusively from the iTunes Store.
  •   An iPod summary window that makes managing your iPod really easy.
  •   On-screen video controls for the movies and videos you watch in iTunes.

And that’s not all. You can read about some of the other new features in iTunes 7 on the Overview page—after downloading iTunes 7, of course.
