Judge approves Winn-Dixie plan
A federal bankruptcy judge approved the reorganization plan of Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. today, setting the stage for the supermarket chain to emerge from bankruptcy in mid-October if creditors and vendors accept the proposal.

Winn-Dixie closed all 10 of its stores in North Alabama, including six in Madison County, last summer.

The once dominant grocery chain in the South now must get unsecured creditors, vendors and landlords to vote to approve the plan, which generally calls for them to be paid from 59.1 cents to 95.6 cents on the dollar with new stock in the company.
