| HEALTHY KITCHEN TIPS -- Money Savers |
- When you have a spoonful or so of vegetables, like beans,
peas, corn, rice, etc., leftover after a meal, put in
a freezer container or bag in freezer. Use it to make
vegetable soup.
- Wrap fresh celery completely in aluminum foil. It will
keep fresh and crisp for a long time
- Instead of buying the more expensive beef stew meat,
purchase a chuck roast on sale and cut it up yourself.
- When using only part of a bell pepper, cut it from the
bottom or the sides, leave the seeds attached because
they hold the moisture. You can put the rest in a resealable
plastic bag and use it up to 4 days later. It won't be
mushy.
- To keep lettuce fresher longer wrap a dry paper towel
around the root end of the lettuce head and store in a
zipper close bag. The paper towel will absorb the excess
water keeping the lettuce fresh and crisp.
- Save and rinse the plastic bags from your cereal boxes
to use for convenient and cost free freezer wrap. Works
especially well for meats. Waste not--want not.
- Freshening dry and hard lemons is effortless by placing
them in a hot oven for a few minutes.
- Use a grocery bag lined with several layers of paper
toweling to substitute for a salad spinner. Put lettuce
into bag, close then spin it around in a circle a few
turns until the greens are dry and ready to dress.
