Hot News Headlines
Awarding the new Nike + iPod Sport Kit 4.5 out of 5 stars, Mike Kobrin (PCmag.com) opines that while “running isn’t always fun,” the Nike + iPod Sport Kit “adds an extra element that can actually inspire and motivate you more than simply listening to music and timing yourself. And with the excellent community features, you may find some friends online at nikeplus.com to challenge and swap musical recommendations with, too.”

USA Today’s Edward Baig admits to being “not much of a runner.” “So it took the wireless Nike + iPod Sport Kit I’ve been testing to push me to the starting line. The clever kit may provide the inspiration required to get you off your duff. More serious runners can use it to monitor their progress and set goals.”

"Whether you're starting high school or college in the fall, or have children who are, the Apple MacBook 13-inch is a great choice for those going back to school or for anyone who wants simple computing in a sleek design," reports Cisco Cheng (PCmag.com). "Bound to make a strong fashion statement, this base-model MacBook costs just $1,099 (direct), yet has plenty of speed for average course work."

Touring with iPod

iPod tours
Next time you head for a museum, zoo, or European chateau, don’t forget to bring your iPod. That’s because everyone’s favorite source of portable music has inspired lots of groups and individuals to develop tour content specifically for iPod.

Let’s say your summer vacation plans include a visit to Louis XIV’s breathtaking chateau in Versailes. Simply download the podcasts waiting for you on iTunes, transfer them to your iPod, and you’re good to go.

It’s a truly exciting—and international—phenomena. The Tate Modern in London; The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco; the San Diego Zoo; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the National Museum of African Art at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC—all offer podtours and some venues even have iPods you can check out.

Podtour anyone?

Singing the praises of GarageBand

Kids rock Kids love his music. Parents love his music. The New York Times calls him “a rising star in the world of children’s music.” And you can find five of his albums on the iTunes Music Store.

He’s Justin Roberts, and he’s a big fan of GarageBand. In fact, the suite of iLife applications was instrumental to the creation of “Meltdown,” his latest album. “It kind of happened without any planning,” he says. “I’ve always had a Mac, but I didn’t sit down thinking I’d try multitracking to write” the album.

As he worked on the songs in “Meltdown,” GarageBand became not just a tool but a source of inspiration. “As I was listening through the headphones and singing different parts, I was constantly thinking, ‘I’ve never written like this.’ It turned out to be really fun.”

Tied neatly in a bow

Steve Winter Aperture has become an integral part of Steve Winter’s workflow. An innovative National Geographic photographer, Winter recently traveled to Kamchatka to document the unfolding story of one of the world’s most formidable species. The now-threatened Siberian brown bear.

To make certain he brings home all of the shots he needs, Winter packs a MacBook Pro and Aperture along with his most trusted camera gear. “I have my Aperture studio right in the tent. Every night, I’m in there looking at what I’ve done, creating the story as I go. It’s a great confidence builder. In the past you never really knew whether you got the shot. With Aperture, you know precisely what you have—and what you need.”

See some of the images Winter captured on that shoot and learn why he feels that for him, “Aperture is a dream come true.”

.Mac hits all the right notes?

Miller, Ukes and DotmacWay back when, Chris Miller knew he wanted to share his love of the ukulele with others bitten by the same bug. And he knew that podcasts were the way to accomplish his goal. He just didn’t have the means to carry out his plans.

Enter, stage right, iLife ’06. “I watched the video of the Macworld keynote and saw how to integrate podcasting into many of the applications. So I picked up iLife ’06 to try it out. I experimented with podcasting in GarageBand for about fifteen minutes, and that was all I needed to make the first UkeCast. It aired on March 6, 2006.”

And Miller’s been busy ever since, publishing one “ukecast” after another and using iWeb to post them on his .Mac account.1 Where ukulele fans all over the world can enjoy them.
