The American auto industry is dead in the water. General
Motors and Ford Motor Company have been labeled as "junk
bonds" by Wall Street. Toyota and Mitsubishi are
reporting record sales while Detroit continues to struggle with
SUVs and other gas-guzzling behemoths. Last week, Ford Motor
Company broke its nine-month old promise to build 250,000
hybrids by 2010. And yet, they still have the nerve to advertise
that they are declaring independence from oil. The
American auto industry needs a strong message. It's time to turn
Detroit around.
"A picture is worth a thousand words," and this is your
chance to share your words, creativity, passion and activism!
Send us pictures or images that depict your ideas on how you,
your town, or the country can declare independence from oil.
The Freedom from Oil Photo Contest runs through Tuesday,
August 8th, so bust out that camera and start snapping! You
can send your image two ways: either to us directly at
photocontest@ran.org or through Flickr
at the link below:

The winner will be chosen by the community
(all of you) for the photo that most creatively delivers a
Freedom from Oil message to the auto industry, particularly Ford
Motor Company. Your photo could be the
featured picture in our upcoming national ad
campaign!
So, whether it's posing with a banner in front of a famous
monument, your favorite transportation device, or
alternatives to oil, you could "snap shot" your way into a
major publication.
