The OPPO DV970HD is feature-packed DVD player that delivers what it promises. HDMI connectivity and upscaling enables the DV970HD to deliver an excellent picture on an HDTV. In addition, other features, such as DVD-Audio and Divx playback add great audio and video flexibility. If you are looking for a new DVD player, whether to use with that new flat panel HDTV and surround sound system, make sure you check this one out.  Top Picks - Home Theater Mistakes and How to Avoid Them  from your Home Theater Guide
You spent a ton of money and time setting up your new home theater system, but something just doesn't seem right. Did you make any mistakes? To find out, check out my list of common mistakes many of us make when trying to put together a home theater environment.

1) Buying the Wrong Size Television
Every one wants a big TV, however, a large TV is not always best for a particular size room or viewing distance. A good rule of thumb to follow is that the minimum optimum viewing distance from the viewer to the TV screen should be about 2 - 2 1/2 times the width of the television screen. In other words, if you have a 34-inch television, you should not sit closer than about 7 feet from the screen.

2) The Room Has Windows
Most TVs do fine in a semi-lit room - however, darker is better, especially for video projectors. Never place your TV on a wall opposite windows. If you have curtains to cover the windows, make sure they cannot pass light through into the room when they are closed.

3) Buying Cheap Speakers
Some spend a small fortune on audio/video components, but don't give enough thought on the quality of the loudspeakers and subwoofer. This doesn't mean you have to spend thousands for a modest system; but you should consider speakers that can do the job. [p] With many choices, it may seem difficult, but the best thing to do is to actually listen to speakers at a dealer before you buy. Do your own comparisons. Take your own CDs and DVDs with you to hear what they sound like with various speakers.
