Technique Tips

Left Knee Passé With Right Arm Extended Overhead

This move is executed by pulling your left knee up and rotating it out and in. At the same time, you are holding your right arm overhead and holding your weight like a “torch.” You want to keep the pelvis stable and pointing straight ahead as the leg rotates. This requires the movement to come from the hip joints. As you rotate, you must engage your “core” muscles to prevent even the slightest rotation of the body.

Plank Position With An Arabesque

The arabesque in this position is challenging because your core has to engage in order to avoid your hips from rotating. So, not only is your core working to keep your body in a flat position, but it is also trying to keep the pelvis on the opposite side from dropping.

Exercise Helps Heal

Source: Prevention magazine

New research reveals that regular activity can speed the healing process by as much as 25%.  Ohio State University scientists delivered a small puncture wound to 28 sedentary men and women ages 55 to 77.  They asked half of the group to exercise on a treadmill, ride a stationary bike, and strength-train three times a week, 2 hours per session, for 3 months, while the other group stayed inactive.  In the end, the skin wounds healed an average of 10 days faster in those who exercised than in those who didn't.
