Friends,
Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
Cause I'm the tax man
Yea I'm the tax man
It's tax season in the U.S., a time of panic and pain for many of us
who have the pleasure of paying Uncle Sam to do what Uncle Sam does.
And I don't know about you, but my anxiety around taxes never
completely goes away. For a brief time, say the morning of April 16th,
there's a moment of semi-calm. But it doesn't last. Almost before the
day is through, I wonder if I completed my tax returns properly, and then
my anxiety grows throughout the year, rising like storm clouds on the
horizon, as every invoice is sent, every payment comes in, as every
possible deduction is considered.
Sharing my anxiety with a friend, she smiled knowingly and recommended
the program Quicken. As easy as Quicken is, though, I still found myself
wanting to reach for a manual, one that provided the kind of calm-inducing context,
tips, and strategy that let me feel in the know and in control of my
finances. As we all know, however, manuals are a thing of the past.
Until now. "Quicken 2006 for Starters: The Missing Manual" provides
time-saving tips and tricks to get my taxes done and to manage my finances
throughout the year. For the first time, taxes are a formality, a small
event at the end of a year-long process of knowing and understanding my
financial situation. Curious? You can buy it now at:
While you're at it, take advantage of our "Buy 2 Books, Get 1 Free" offer

Until next week,

MySQL in a Nutshell
This quick reference has solved many problems--shaving an hour
debugging into a quick look up. Just the other day, we couldn't
figure out why the group_concat() function was failing. Twenty
seconds after we picked up MySQL in a Nutshell, we knew it was
due to a version difference.
