"...the Constitution does not
protect a right to an abortion." — Samuel A.
Alito, in a 1985 job application. "I personally
believe very strongly" in this legal position, Alito wrote on
his application to become deputy assistant to Attorney
General Edwin I. Meese III.

Planned Parenthood is working
tirelessly to defeat Judge Alito's nomination. We must stop any
Supreme Court nominee who is not committed to upholding Roe
v. Wade's constitutional protections for women's health,
safety, and privacy. As part of our nationwide emergency
campaign, we are:
mobilizing hundreds of
thousands of supporters coast to coast to contact their senators
canvassing in key states
and districts to spread the word about what's at stake
holding visibility events
nationwide to spread our message far and wide
speaking out as the
nation's leading reproductive health care provider to distribute
accurate and timely information about Alito's judicial record
lobbying senators with
pro-choice and mixed records on choice to let them know the
public demands Supreme Court nominees who will uphold
Roe
We are only one Supreme Court vote away
from losing many of the protections guaranteed by Roe.
We cannot allow Samuel Alito to be that deciding vote.
Urge your senators to oppose Alito's
nomination.

The
nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court is
one of the most serious threats to women's health and
reproductive freedom Americans have faced in years. Planned
Parenthood is speaking out to oppose his nomination and protect
our right to choose. And we need you to do the same.
Urge your senators to oppose Alito's
nomination.
Planned Parenthood has launched
a nationwide emergency campaign to stop this
ultraconservative nominee from being approved by the U.S.
Senate. We need 100,000 Planned Parenthood members, supporters,
and activists to write to their senators, to send a powerful
message to our leaders: This nominee is wrong for the American
people.
President Bush has partnered with extreme
right-wing interest groups who want to set the national agenda.
Rather than choose a fair-minded nominee who clearly
supports the rights that most Americans hold dear, the president
has again divided the country.
Judge Alito has a
judicial record of hostility toward women's rights, privacy
rights, and civil rights. He is an unsuitable replacement for
retiring Justice Sandra O'Connor. She is a moderate
conservative; he clearly is not.
Over 70,000
supporters have already taken action to keep a balanced
court. Please help us go the distance with the Emergency Campaign to Stop
Alito by taking action right now.
Urge
your senators to oppose Alito's nomination.
Sincerely,
Karen
Pearl Interim President Planned Parenthood Federation of
America On behalf of the Planned Parenthood community
