2005 finished with a bang - thanks for your support
QUALITY AND VALUE RULE - and we're looking for the best
2006 should be great for Ontario wine - but as always, vigilance pays
With a huge 2005 behind us, its time to review last year's best sellers. We'll start with the
whites and next time we'll look at the reds. But not before wishing all of our customers and friends
all the best in health, good fortune and great wine - for 2006.
Top Whites of 2005
Once again, chardonnay was the top selling category. While 12 of our top 20 wines were reds and represented
the majority of our sales - chardonnays ruled, garnering 2 of the top 10 (4 of the top 20) spots. Although some
wine aficionados still give lip service to the old ABC (anything but chardonnay) mantra - our sales belie this claim.
Ontario's great chardonnays - with their increasingly distinctive styles (unoaked, oaked, barrel fermented/aged) are gaining
more advocates and respect all the time.
While 2 of the top 4 chardonnays are sold out - miraculously the top 2 are still available - Peninsula Ridge
2003 Inox Chardonnay earned the top spot overall and Flat Rock 2004 Chardonnay the second most popular chard on
our top 10 list - in 10th spot. If you want to find out why these wines were so popular - this may be one of your
last chances to do so.
Flat Rock 2004 Chardonnay (VG, VG) - $16.95 with a toasty, spicy nose and a similar taste profile - this Burgundian-style chardonnay is a winner order at least 2 or 4, or why not 6?order now
Sauvignon blanc occupied second place in the white wine derby - with 2 of the top 10 best-sellers (4 of top 20).
Also surprisingly, the top two are still available - Stonechurch 2004 Sauvignon Blanc was the third best seller
overall, followed by Peninsula Ridge 2004 Sauvignon Blanc in ninth place.
If you want some of these fine, fresh whites from the superb 2004 vintage - better grab them fast, as two of the
other sauv blancs on our top 20 list have already sold out!
Peninsula Ridge 2004 Sauvignon Blanc (VG, VG) - $18.95 clean, crisp, minerally and full of fruit - David Lawrason likens to
a Pouilly Fume - Zoltan Szabo thinks it's the best around minimum of 2 - maybe 6 for the cellar!order now
Our third most popular white in 2005 was the exceptional Flat Rock 2004 Nadja's Vineyard Riesling - that won the
Canadian Wine 2005 Riesling of the Year Award.
This unique screwcap beauty was our fifth most popular wine overall
- and with good reason. If you haven't already tried it, this is your chance - while quantities last.
We've left some of our most popular gift packs on our site for now - so that you can still find great
deals and wine assortments - both for gifts and
for your own cellar!
