Asheville offers excellent theatre throughout the year at such venues as the Asheville Community Theatre, Diana Wortham Theatre, the North Carolina Stage Company and Montford Park. This season’s offering include everything from the zany to the sublimely hilarious. Be Be Theatre presents the Fringe Festival of the Arts from January 26 through January 29. This unique event celebrates its fourth year of culturally adventurous workshops, performances and other fringe fun. The creative outpouring from past years have tossed together actors, dancers, singers, painters and musicians into the mad mix. Experience one of the 20th century’s most important plays when the Asheville Community Theatre presents “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest” from January 20 to February 5. Adapted from the Ken Kesey novel, this play about modern man’s struggle against organized society is hilarious, heroic, tragic and beautiful. WORLD OF WONDER! Children of all ages can experience the wonder of discovery this winter in Asheville. Experience a tropical rainforest at The Health Adventure’s Rainforest ALIVE exhibit. Young and old alike can lead an expedition through the sights and sounds of the tropics and meet exotic wildlife such as emperor scorpions, poison dart frogs, Burmese pythons, and a giant tarantula at this exciting exhibit running until May 28.
THE HILLS ARE
ALIVE Asheville music scene riples with the sounds of hot jazz, fusion, and traditional music. Acclaimed mandolinists Mike Marshall and Chris Thile come to the Diana Wortham Theatre on January 13. Marshall and Thile’s multigenerational collaboration rums the gamut from classical to jazz influenced work and Marshall has been called one of the top mandolinists in the world by Mandolin Magazine.
