Testing Yields Results
Every month, we talk to you in this newsletter about the value of testing email creative, subject lines, landing pages and times/days of the week to learn what works best for your campaigns. We recommend you take our monthly suggestions to task. This month we're emphasizing how segmented, targeted and multi-touch campaigns will work better for your efforts.

We know (trust us from first hand experience) that creating campaigns that really focus on individuals or segmented groups takes a little longer to think through and produce, but the value is truly beneficial to your marketing efforts, the ROI generated and most importantly to those on your lists.

One must read is the MarketingSherpa Email Study, even if you just read the Executive Overview.

We just wrapped up our 3rd quarter review on email campaigns from our clients, and created a study not just on day of the week/time of day, but also focusing on list size and performance. Everyone should read this.

Wear Short Shorts Office Olympics
Many of you have never met us in person, so this might be an odd first date. The team at eROI really wanted to get into the holiday spirit and something went terribly wrong. Somehow, he ended up in short shorts looking like John McEnroe in the - 70's without the hair. This video is troubling but strangely amusing - if you haven't seen it yet, now is your chance to view it at www.wearshortshorts.com. It may become a living site with future Office Olympic Events (imagine the chair luge, drunken tricycle races, garbage can hurdles, or even the dreaded printer deadlifts). But without your vote, it could die on the office floor.

Consumers Trust Each Other More Than Advertising
Consumers are 50% more likely to be influenced by word-of-mouth behavior than radio/TV ads, says 2005 Intelliseek research of consumer behavior

The "2005 Consumer-Generated Media (CGM) and Engagement Study" a new study of consumer behavior by Intelliseek Inc., reports that consumers are 50 percent more likely to be influenced by word-of- mouth recommendations from their peers than by radio/TV ads. Consumer trust toward traditional advertising is being challenged by growing confidence in consumer-generated-media (CGM), and the recommendations of other consumers.

The research also finds important correlations between consumers who regularly skip over or delete television or online ads and those who create, and absorb consumer-generated media (defined as experiences, opinions and advice posted on the Internet by consumers for others to read and share). "Active ad skippers" are 25 percent more likely to create and respond to Internet message boards, forums and blogs.

PSP Spreads Zombie Fever
In an effort to spread awareness for the new PSP title Infected, game publisher Majesco has created a series of websites for fake products that slowly succumb to a zombie infection. In addition to the standard gory third-person shooter fare, Infected allows PSP owners to connect wirelessly with other gamers in multiplayer mode, where they can then "infect" their opponents with their very own zombie virus. Playing off that unique feature, the ads start off promoting ridiculous products like Stalker Perfume, Diversion Bras and So So Soda - before a simple click from the visitor clears the way for the zombies to take over.

10 Things to Consider Before Getting Started with RSS
So, you've heard the buzz about RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and think you should consider adding RSS feeds to your site. Well, join the crowd. Many marketers are just now exploring the potential of RSS. Before you don your explorer's pith helmet and gear, you need to prepare yourself for entering this new terrain. RSS is part technology and mostly marketing. It is more a challenge of marketing imagination than technical implementation. Here are ten questions that you should answer before you begin to offer feeds.

1. How often do you add new content to your site?
2. How many feeds will you need to offer?
3. How frequently will you update your feeds?
4. What format or version of RSS will you use for your feeds?
5. How much will you syndicate in your feed - a headline, a teaser, or more?
6. Do you want to encourage others to syndicate your content onto their site, or is your RSS feed just a convenience for readers?
7. Will you include advertising in your feed?
8. How will you measure success?
9. How will you let your audience know that you have added RSS to your site?
10. How and who in your organization will monitor the rapidly changing RSS landscape for additional uses and improved technology?

Just remember that RSS is a marketing solution, not a technical problem. If you approach getting started in RSS from this perspective, you will find RSS an exciting new marketing communications medium.

"We did a lot of research before selecting eROI as our broadcast tool. We were very impressed by the data capture and reporting capabilities, which surpassed that offered by some of the more expensive providers. Plus, the service we have received has been awesome. I can honestly say, eROI exceeded our expections on all counts."
Credence

In order to stay at the head of our game, and industry, we have once again added more features to empower our clients with better branded and targeted email marketing services.

This month we added to the emailROI platform:

Updates to our dynamic data rules

New Interface
Though the interface has changed much in the way one interacts with it, it is a bit more compact to allow for the easier maintenance of large rulesets.

Increased Allowable Cases to 999
Each rule can have as many as 999 cases, whereas before we were limited to 99 cases.

Ability to import rules via a flat file, *pipe* delimited database

That's right, large rulesets no longer need to be maintained through our interface. You could decide to keep their rules in an excel spreadsheet, or other database, and import them directly into our system.

New Custom Double Opt In Code
We created a new piece of code to add to your lead capture forms to create a custom double opt-in. You will need to create an edition in a list and specify it in the code.

Find an example in the HELP section of your emailROI Account.

New Add Record Functions
We added some much-needed functionality to the Add New and Add Copy functions in the Master CRM.

Previously, when you were adding new contacts, the User field data would not be enter-able. Now, with new contacts in the CRM, you can add them - adding both their contact info and their user field data info.

Contact your Sales or Account Manager for any assistance.
