Once again MEC is pleased to present the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival's (VIMFF) Mountain Photo Competition. Entries are being accepted in three different categories, each judged for cash and merchandise prizes. Winning entries will be displayed throughout the 2004 VIMFF, from Feb. 25 - 29. They'll also be part of the festival roadshow that will travel to 25 communities across BC, as well as selected locations in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. The entry deadline of January 15, 2004 is approaching, so act fast for a chance to share your images with the outdoor community. » Get contest details and entry forms
Throughout 2003 MEC's Environment Fund has been supporting projects in recognition of the United Nation's International Year of Freshwater. Ten endangered rivers are profiled in Canada's National Endangered Rivers project, a unique online action centre created by Earthwild International and Wildcanada.net. The centre provides information about the rivers, the threats they face and gives visitors the tools to participate in preservation. In the words of the International Year of Freshwater site, "No matter who we are, where we are and what we do, we are all dependent on water." » Read our Envirofund project profile. » Get involved at the Endangered Rivers Action Centre.
No matter what your backcountry passion is, chances are you're embracing it while carrying a pack. But, if a buckle breaks, your body-hugging pack can suddenly become a loose-fitting counterweight that severely diminishes your fun factor. You can avoid this by augmenting your repair kit with various sizes of lightweight, replacement buckles, suited to your pack. Whether you go for a quick-fix or a more permanent solution, our buckle replacement article can guide you through the process. It's just one small way to prepare for the unexpected, and keep you focussed on backcountry bliss. |
