Dear *** ***, Gleaming just beneath the surface of the highly publicized flap over the .info sunrise period lies a pearl. It should surprise no one in the domain name community that the value of generics are sufficient to inspire schemes, such as filing fraudulent trademark claims, to acquire them. But this proof of value is not the pearl I mention. It's in the opening of Newsbytes' coverage on August 8th "Legitimate domain name speculators" reports David McGuire, " are outraged by the fraudulent TM claims." A year ago, would you have predicted that the mainstream press would use "legitimate" and "domain name speculation" in the same description? It's an infinitesimal victory, to be sure, but it's nonetheless a tribute to the professionals in the domain community who never doubted their legitimacy. The world is beginning to notice. Sincerely,
